CHRISTMAS PARTY
Successful 1st birthday for SOS
110 members and their guests joined our Patron Griff Rhys Jones to celebrate the Society’s 1st Christmas Party in the Jellicoe Room at the Royal Hospital School by kind permission of the Headmaster.
The evening was pronounced a great success by those who attended celebrating the beauty of the Peninsula as captured by local artists, aerial photography and an exhibition of wildlife photography. A display of elaborate jewellery was also part of an interesting evening in the majestic surroundings of the Jellicoe Room.
The evening included speeches from both our Chairman, Tom Hill setting out the work carried out by the Society over the first 9 months and our Patron, Griff Rhys Jones who gave the Committee and members a “thank you” for all of the work carried out on SOS’s behalf highlighting just how valuable the work was for future generations. As Griff pointed out an area such as the Peninsula, which benefits from statutory protection as an area of outstanding natural beauty and with its rivers benefiting from an international treaty for the protection of birdlife, that these are the very areas in Britain that seem to be under the greatest threat from inappropriate forms of development - the irony of having protected status!
The evening could not have taken place without a great deal of effort by Committee members but in addition without the support of our artists and sponsors.
With our grateful thanks to;
Artists Michael Norman Jennifer Freeman Rodney Freeman
